Facebook is a great way to reach many different people and it has stuck around and continues to grow. With all the evolving social media and new platforms popping up, Facebook has evolved with the rest and continues staying on top and you want to be sure to be on the site.

It is important to have a business page on Facebook that you post on regularly. Mixing up what you post about it a good want to share your work and business information, but that is not what you always want to talk about. Post your recent photos and information about a new service you offer or discounts you have going on. You also want to post as an industry expert. For example, if you are a wedding photographer and trying to market to engaged couples, post information on 'finding a great photographer,' or on '10 wedding photos you want to make sure that your photographer gets,' can make you stand out and be seen as an expert.

Along with posting, you also want to make sure you take time to comment and like other's pages and posts. If people are commenting on your posts, be sure you respond back with them so you keep the communication going. If you see something posted on another photographer's page that you think is great information, share it. If you share the love, they may do the same for you.

Such a variety of people are on Facebook and their advertising can help you to specifically target a certain type of person that you are looking for. For example, if you are trying to promote your wedding photography business to engaged couples in New York, you can specifically do that with a sponsored post. Or, if you are looking for people who love pets, Facebook can make that happen. With decently low prices for a sponsored post that can work around many budgets, you can easily boost the social media marketing you are doing for your business so it can be more viral.

Instagram is a great way to show off your amazing photography and if you are not on here, you are missing out on big potential opportunities. With over 500 million monthly active users as of June 2016 (according to Statista), the Instagram app is one of the most popular social media sites worldwide.

This platform is literally created to share photos... how perfect is that for a photographer? All you want to do in your business is promote your photos and market your business to others looking for a photographer. It offers a very easy place to post your photos and search for specific groups of people based with keywords (otherwise known as hashtags).

Hashtags are very useful to the Instagram platform. Using specific hashtags helps you to interact with your target audience. You can include specific hashtags with your photos so that others can find your work when searching for that same keyword or phrase. An example... if you photograph landscapes and use #landscapephotography with your photo, others searching for that same hashtag will see your photo. You can also search specific hashtags to find and start following others. If you are looking for engaged couples or someone planning their wedding, searching for #engaged, #imengaged, or #isaidyes could pull up profiles of people potentially looking for a wedding photographer.

The third social media platform that is important for your photography business is Pinterest. You have your own profile and can create "boards" where you can pin things. If you post an article with lots of photos on your blog from a recent photo shoot you did, you can pin that to one of your specific boards and it will link from Pinterest directly back to that blog post on your website. When others see your post and share it, it has the potential to become very popular and go viral.

People get on Pinterest for inspiration. Whether they are looking for inspiration when planning their wedding, redecorating their home, for cooking or even tips on how to capture amazing photos at sunset, you can find anything you need on this platform which makes it such a huge success. If you pin recent wedding photography you have taken or even pin blog posts you write, people will see your pins and it can bring your website much more traffic.

Pinterest is also a great place for you to send your customers (and potential customers) as a resource. Perhaps you are a photographer that loves teaching other photographers and you have a board that is titled "photographer resources" that includes tons of great photography related information... you can point other photographers to your board so they can get some great industry information. If you are a wedding photographer, perhaps you have a board of gorgeous wedding gowns to help bring more wedding planning inspiration to your brides.

7 Social Media Post Ideas To Keep Your Followers Engaged

Social media is so important to any business in today's online world. People are always online and checking in on their various social media accounts many times throughout the day and night so it is very important for your business to have a presence as well. We have talked before about the importance of social media and how it is a great, and FREE, way to reach potential customers and stay up-to-date with those you have already worked with, but what should you actually be posting about?

First of all, it is important to post regularly. Whether it be once a day, or four times a week, you want to be consistent and continue to post new and fresh content that your followers will be interested in. It's good practice to mix it up and post a variety of different things. Do not just post all about your business because your followers may get bored and want to block or unfollow you. You also want to make sure you take time to like, comment and share posts from others that you follow - so you can share the love and hopefully they will do the same for you!

Today we want to help you out with other unique social media post ideas that you can do throughout the week. We hope these 7 social media post ideas will keep your followers engaged and interested. Enjoy!

People love great quotes. Whether it is something about love, life, work, happiness... quotes stand out to others, especially when they are with a graphic or beautiful photo. Create your own graphics or simply search online for quotes and find an image that has already been created to use (just be sure you give photo credit when you use someone else's work)! When you find a quote that you know people will love, each time someone shares your post, you reach a whole new group of potential followers or customers! Here is a great example of a quote graphic we made!

2. Content From Your Blog

Along with social media, blogging is so important. Not only does a blog help with SEO, it is a great way to boost your presence online and become a thought leader in your industry.  We have talked about the importance of having a blog on your website, and along with being an important aspect to your website, your blog posts give you evergreen content that you can use over and over again. For example, if you are a wedding photographer who wrote an article discussing important questions you should ask your photographer before booking them that you know is very popular, you can continue to post that every few months which will keep visitors coming to your site.

3. Company Milestones

Just because you should not talk about your company ALL THE TIME, does not mean you shouldn't toot your own horn every now and then! Is it your 10th anniversary of being in business? Did your photos make it into a huge magazine you have been dreaming about for years? Tell everyone and announce it proud! You want your followers to know about the great work that you do, and you should be proud of yourself for your accomplishments and want to tell others.... just be sure you do not go overboard!

4. Giveaways, Contests or Special Deals You Are Offering

These types of promotions get tons of traffic because people love giveaways and discounts! If you are holding a holiday special for family portraits, post about it on your social media pages and encourage your followers to tell others. Are you a photographer who takes senior portraits and is giving away a free session to one lucky winner? Post it! You will find that it can get tons of traffic.

For a small amount of money on Facebook, Instagram or even Pinterest, you can boost your post and have it reach so many additional people - many who could potentially be your next customer! These types of posts are great for that sort of promotion because they could potentially give you an good ROI back from people who book.

5. Funny Industry Posts

Memes are such a huge hit and there are so many funny things out there that you can post about photography, weddings, cameras or anything else that you want to share. You can create your own someecards (or use ones that have already been created) or find funny memes that you know your followers will love.

6. Industry News

Did you read an excellent article in the New York Times about the photography industry that you think other photographers would like to see? Share it and be sure to tag that news source you saw it in! Tagging them always brings the potential of getting new followers or page views!

7. Questions For Your Audience

It is always a good idea to get your followers engaged and comment on your posts and this can be done easily with a fun poll. Do you photograph boudoir photos? Perhaps ask your followers what is the one thing they were most nervous about during their session. Maybe you are looking to see when your followers are having wedding anniversaries. For those that answer, perhaps you can start a conversation about having photos of the couple taken. The possibilities are endless.

7 Important Facebook Tips For Photographers

Social media is HUGE in business today. Pretty much every person, both young and old, is on some form of social media on a daily basis and that means your potential customers are there as well. That makes social media a big marketing aspect for your business. One social media platform that is very important is Facebook. You need to think about your business and how you are showcasing yourself in this popular online space.

Think about this... Facebook is totally FREE so it is a no brainer that you should have a business page and that you keep up with it. In order to make sure you are doing everything you can on Facebook to help promote your photography business, we want to share with you these Facebook tips for photographers.

1. Post Daily

You want to make sure you post regularly on your business Facebook page. Posting will get your page out on the newsfeed of those that follow you, which is important because you want others to see your posts. Keep in mind that you do not want to post so much that you are a pest where people will want to stop following you, but doing so once or twice a day is perfect!

2. Use Photos

On Facebook, using photos is SO important. That is not too bad since you are a photographer and have tons of photos to showcase. Each and every post should include some kind of photo as posts without them tend to get passed over quickly. Find photos that stand out to you... think about other photos that have gone viral and made its way quickly throughout social media and online.

3. Use Variety In Your Posts

You want to be sure that you are mixing up the type of posts you do on your business page. While you want to showcase your work, business and different services you offer regularly, you don't want that to be all you share. Perhaps you came across a great article online that lists important questions that you should ask your wedding photographer before you book them. If you are a wedding photographer, that would be a great article to post on your page for all your brides or brides-to-be to see. People also love things like great quotes, funny memes or graphics that you come across or anything else that you think will stand out and make someone smile and want to share.

4. Link Back To Your Website or Blog

If you have photographed some really awesome photos you want to share, and you have just posted them on your blog, go ahead and share them and be sure you link to that post on your website. It is a great way to get additional page views and you never know who is going to see your post and share it. And once they share, then everyone in their social media network will see your great work! What an awesome way to reach new people you never would have before!!!

5. Interact With Others

Posting is great but you want to make sure you go through your newsfeed and comment and like posts from others that you follow daily. The way Facebook's algorithms are, your posts only show up in a small number of people's news feeds, but by commenting and liking other's posts, it will help you show up on pages of people you interact with.

6. Include Business Information On Your Profile

You want to be sure that you include information on your Facebook profile so potential customers can contact you if necessary. If someone is looking for a photographer to photograph their daughter's senior portraits and they find you first on Facebook, you want them to find your phone number, email and website right away without them having to search 3 different websites. The more a customer has to search for your contact information, the quicker they will lose interest in you and move on to another photographer. In all aspects of life in today's society, people want accessibility and if they think you are hard to find or get in touch with, you may not get a chance at their business.

7. Respond To All Messages

Some people - who could end up being a potential customer - may reach out to you on your Facebook page. Someone could be checking out your page where they see some of your work and decide they want to message you for more information. You want to be sure that you check your Facebook messages daily and respond as soon as you can. We recommend you responding with a short answer to their question and give them another way to reach out to you so you can set up a time to further discuss over the phone or in person. Make sure you take those Facebook messages seriously... you could find some great clients!

We know that keeping up with your social media can be difficult and sometimes may be the last thing you want to do after a busy weekend working. We recommend carving out 15 to 30 minutes a day where you sit down and knock out all of your social media then. If you follow these tips and do them on a daily basis, you will see that social media is a great marketing tool to utilize.
